According to my counselor, this is the best paragraph in the book. She remarked there were many strong passages, but that this one in particular was her favorite.

"This plays into the theory that once a victim, the chance of being victimized again increases exponentially. I think it is because we don’t recognize when we are in a situation where we are vulnerable. Someone who grew up in a home where one was always vulnerable would be hard pressed to distinguish between a good situation and one in which they are at risk since the risk is ever present. And coyotes know this. In fact, many of them seek exactly that. They are opportunistic predators and who better to seek than one who is vulnerable and doesn’t even know it."
